Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of play activity as a key means for the development of musical abilities in preschool children in rhythmics classes. Musical abilities are considered as individual psychological features that determine the success of performing musical activities. The authors have identified key musical abilities, such as intonational ear, musical-rhythmic sense, musical memory, emotional responsiveness, and the ability to improvise. The Federal State Educational Standard for Preschool Education emphasizes the need to include music classes in the educational program aimed at improving children's musical abilities. Modern preschool education offers a variety of methods and educational and methodological complexes, including programs such as "Rhythmic Mosaic" by A. I. Burenina, "Dance Rhythms for Children" by T. I. Suvorova, "Children's Imaginary Dances" by E. A. Pinaeva, and "Music Games for Children" by T. N. Obraztsova. These programs offer effective methods for developing musical abilities, including play activities and musical-motor activities. Rhythm games, dance and theatrical games, musical riddles, song games, and musical relay races play an important role in shaping the musical abilities of preschoolers. Research shows that game-based learning significantly enhances the development of these abilities, contributing to the harmonious physical, emotional, and intellectual growth of children. The article also presents the results of a diagnostic study conducted at a municipal preschool institution, which confirmed the low level of development of most of the musical abilities in the preschoolers. These findings served as the basis for the development of a pedagogical project. The project aims to comprehensively develop the musical abilities of preschoolers and includes activities such as rhythmic and dance games, theatrical performances, song contests, musical puzzles and challenges, and creative exercises. In conclusion, the authors emphasize that the integration of play activities into rhythmics classes provides a unique opportunity for the effective development of preschoolers' musical abilities, making educational processes joyful, interesting, and beneficial.
