Abstract. Genomic research is an important part of modern life, being the subject of research in many scientific fields, such as medicine, veterinary medicine, horticulture, etc. Like all areas of life, genomic research is regulated by various branches of law. This issue is relevant today for world agriculture, despite the fact that genetics is one of the youngest, and, accordingly, one of the poorly regulated branches of science in the legal field. This work examines international and Russian legislation regulating relations in the field of genomic research in agriculture. Using legal and technical methods, the authors of this research analyze the main normative legal acts in this area. The definitions of the main concepts used in genomic research in agriculture are studied. Both legal (given by the legislator) and scientific definitions have been studied. In the course of the study, the competition of the Russian Federation's regulatory acts regulating genomic research in agriculture was revealed. The authors propose to adopt a number of changes in various branches of Russian legislation in order to eliminate these inconsistencies.
