The article examines the sources of water law, the norms regulating relations in the field of water use. In the first part of the work, the authors conduct a study on whether water law should be considered a separate branch of Russian law. The authors come to the conclusion that if environmental law is considered to be a set of separate branches, then water law is a separate branch of Russian law. The second part of the study talks about the study of water law by students of agricultural and law schools both in the course of environmental law and as a separate discipline. The third part of the study presents arguments according to which water law can be considered an independent science.
